BBMRI Stakeholders’ Forum meeting entitled “The European Biobanking Research Infrastructure: A Step Closer” will be held on June 9th 2010 in Brussels. Ireland is playing a leading role in the BBMRI’s Stakeholder Forum with Michael Griffith as Chair and Derick Mitchell as Executive Manager supported by the Irish Platform for Patient Organisations Science and Industry (IPPOSI).

Some 120 invited experts from the broad community of stakeholders of BBMRI comprising researchers from academia and industry clinical organisations patient representatives research administrators ethicists and lawyers from all over Europe including key representatives of many of the largest biobanking initiatives in the world will gather to discuss the potential impact on biomedical research from the construction of a European biobanking research infrastructure.

Registration for the event is now open and will remain open until May 28th 2010.  The June 9th meeting aims to summarize the achievements and challenges of the preparatory phase of BBMRI and will emphasize the importance for enhancing stakeholder input in the pan-European biobanking initiative. Parallel Breakout workshops and an Open Forum are planned during the days events and will aim to project forward towards the implementation of a European research infrastructure for biobanking. The nature of workshops conducted under the BBMRI Stakeholder’s Forum has been to identify the main areas of discussion within a particular stakeholder group and to engage in cross-stakeholder discussions with a number of experienced professionals from other stakeholder groups in order to identify common ground and consensus to move the proposed infrastructure forward.

Also we are offering interested companies the opportunity to meet our guests and present their products and services. Our sponsorship program is an exceptional occasion to exchange with one of the most knowledgeable and influential groups in the world in matters related to biobanking and with important stakeholders in the European biobanking industry.
