BioConnect Ireland event: Underwater Pipeline – Current Trends in Marine Biotech

Wednesday 3 Dcember 2008Venue: Invent Dublin City University Glasnevin Dublin 9

The ocean is the richest source of chemical diversity in our world it covers 70% of the earth’s surface and hosts in excess of 300000 described species of plants and animals as well as very large numbers of microbial species including bacteria micro algae and fungi. The marine environment is a major source of organisms with novel biological materials and unique metabolic mechanisms that will be a source of new materials and mechanisms in biotechnological applications.

This event will look at international examples of how marine resources have been applied commercially and will also examine Irish initiatives for making the most of this resource that surrounds us.
