This course is intended for those with a basic understanding of statistical ideas. The course will cover ideas in statistical modelling which incorporate Simple and Multiple Linear Regression Logistic Regression Classification and Tree based models and Proportional Hazards (or Cox) modelling for Survival data. Illustrations of these will be used throughout the course utilising the statistical packages Minitab and SPSS.
The course is designed as a workshop where participants will work through a variety of exam-ples in order to learn how to carry out an appropriate analysis undertake model checking and diagnostics and summarise the results in a succinct and clear manner. The learning outcomes for this course are that all participants will understand the fundamentals of statistical modelling and variable selection and have the ability to analyse data themselves as well as know when to seek expert advice. The Workshop has been approved by NUI Galway College of Science and School of Medi-cine for contribution to Structured PhD credit (5 ECTS).
